WaterFurnace Named Number 3 in Cleantech Top 10 List

The Globe & Mail features a quarterly insert entitled “Corporate Knights” that is published by a Canadian-based media company that places an explicit focus on corporate responsibility.  The mission of the “Corporate Knights” is to humanize the marketplace by making it easier for people to know the environmental and social impacts of their marketplace decisions, and by showcasing leaders and innovators among others.

In the most recent issue, they featured “The Cleantech 10”, which showcases the top 10 companies traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange that provide knowledge-based products or services that improve operational performance, productivity, or efficiency while reducing costs, inputs, energy consumption, waste or pollution.  WaterFurnace Renewable Energy was listed as number 3 on the list. They had this to say:

“Working with commercial, institutional, and residential building owners, WaterFurnace Renewable Energy builds and promotes environmentally-friendly heating and cooling systems using geothermal heat pumps which can deliver five units of energy for every one unit of electrical energy used.  Why we like this stock: WaterFurnace’s headquarters demonstrate how geothermal technology can be successfully applied. Using a pond loop and 41 geothermal units, the company is able to meet all heating and cooling requirements for the facility.”

Corporate Knights asked the CEOs of the Cleantech Top 10 what would make Canada a cleantech superpower. Tom Huntington, President and CEO of WaterFurnace Renewable Technologies had this to say: “Consumers, as well as business and institutional decision makers, understand the significant return on investment in clean technology (e.g. geothermal heat pumps) and we believe that this positive return can be beneficial to any country’s economy. We have proven technology with documented ultra high-energy efficiency that can be translated into predictable cost savings. We need to educate potential users about these benefits so they can feel confident about their geothermal investment decisions.”
